Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on The Institution of Engineers and AMIE exams

In his mesmerising lecture at the 36th Indian Engineering Congress, December 26-27, 2021, it is evident that Mr Pradhan is fully aware of the value of the AMIE exam in the life of a diploma pass working aspirant. He is also aware of the financial constraints and many such compelling factors due to which a diploma student does not go for a regular engineering degree being engaged in a job. Under such conditions, the only option to fulfil his dream is to become a graduate engineer by doing AMIE while continuing his/her job. His awareness about AMIE exams and their necessity is certainly in favour of IEI.

He also praises AMIE by saying that it was doing well even when there was no Roorkee University, IITs, RECs etc. However, he advised IEI officials that AMIE must be blended with the credit system of the New Education Policy and hence the need to adopt a holistic approach.

These are healthy signs in the direction of restoring AMIE in its fullest form - of course with certain changes.
